New birds nesting!" by mybirds on June 5, 2009, 4:01 pm
This year in Lunenburg we have Eastern Phoebes nesting under an eave of our house -- we have never seen them before ! They are flycatchers, and the first brood has hatched and are now getting ready to fly --- both female & male have been so busy feeding them! I can see 3 little beaks at least.
"Falcon with arrow" by mybirds on June 5, 2009, 8:44 am
We are in Littleton, MA at the intersection of 2A and Spectacle Pond Road. We saw a falcon with an arrow in its back that was poking out the front. Maybe someone thought it was a turkey?? Just wanted to share the story in case anyone else had seen this injured bird.

"Common Red Poll" by mybirds on March 8, 2009, 12:45 pm,
This is the second time these birds have visited my feeders. They arrive in large numbers, stay for a few days and then disappear. Does anybody know where they go?

Has anyone else noticed any feeding differences because of the winter's ice storms?
Woodpeckers" by mybirds on March 8, 2009, 12:33 pm
I too have enjoyed the woodpeckers this year. The Red Bellied Woodpeckers first visited my feeder last winter. They seemed to enjoy the black oil sunflower seed. This year I hung suet and now see them much more often.
Woodpeckers" by mybirds on March 7, 2009, 2:48 am,
Hello from Hubbardston! We are thoroughly enjoying our woodpeckers this winter. We have downies, hairies and red-bellies. These birds particularly like the suet cake hanging in the crabapple tree in my front garden. It's so much fun to watch the birds queue up in the tree and wait for the red-belly to eat first, then the hairy, and then the downy. And after that, the chickadees have their turn.
